I have made this recipe several times. This is one of the two dishes I served at Giana & Julia's 1st Birthday Party. I made them into Mini Sloppy Joes and they were a huge success. I saw this recipe on Rachel Ray's Show a long time ago and thought I would give a shot and with my twist on it of course. So I will tell you what I did.
On a side note, I have not been feeling well the past couple of days and this would make a perfect pick me upper. My good friend is making me dinner tonight so I thought I would just post dinner instead of making it!! Let's get cookin...
1 lb ground lean meat
1/2 diced sweet onion (you can also add other veggies as well like zucchini or peppers)
1 can tomato sauce
2 tablespoons tomato paste (buy in the tube, then you don't waste any)
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon grill seasoning (or all purpose seasoning)
1/4 cup brown sugar
Cook onions and other veggies if using with a little oil first until soft. Then brown meat until done. Add brown sugar with grill seasoning and stir until well combined. Then add red wine vinegar and worc sauce. Cook 5min stirring occasionally. Then add your tomato paste let cook for 1 min stirring the whole time. Next add your tomato sauce and simmer for 15- 20 min.
Serve over toasted buns and a side salad.
We really enjoy this all year round. You can really make this fast buy buying a family pack of ground meat and frying the whole package up. Then season it with salt, pepper, and all purpose seasoning. Then package it in 1 lb portions and put it into freezer bags. Thaw it out in the fridge in the morning and when you get home half your work is down.
Thanks for taking the time to read my blog. It means a lot to me. Please pray this crud goes away quick!!
